Description
A candombe competition and celebration in San Telmo, Buenos Aires. Candombe is an Uruguayan music and dance style originating with African slaves. It is considered an important aspect of the culture of Uruguay and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage of humanity. To a lesser extent, Candombe is practiced in Argentina and Brazil. In Argentina, it can be found in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Paran, and Corrientes. In Brazil, it still retains its religious character and can be found in Minas Gerais State.
This Uruguayan music style is based on three different drums: chico, repique and piano drums. This music style is usually played in February during carnival in Montevideo, Uruguay at dance parades called "Llamadas" and "Desfile Innaugural del Carnaval".The African influence was not foreign to Argentina, where the candombe also has been developed with specific characteristics. A population of black African slaves had been present in Buenos Aires since around 1580.

Venetia This is a great shot (and I'm not a big fan of people and events photography) -- but the fact that the boy turned to look at you at this moment takes this from a very nice and pretty shot to something far far superior - because he's telling us all about himself in that look -- the shot s surely colorful and beautiful in its right, but this takes it to whole new levels -- congratulations!!
