Description
Each year there is a gaucho (south american cowboy) festival of tradition here in San Antonio de Areco which is a city in northern Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, and administrative seat of the partido of San Antonio de Areco. It is located on the Areco River 113 km (70 mi) away from Buenos Aires city, the country's capital. There are parades, rodeo-like competitions, and a lot of celebrating. Beautiful horses are seen everywhere and people riding them mostly gauchos and sometimes their entire families. Traditional costumes are worn and the horses are always attired with gorgeous bridles and saddles.
San Antonio de Areco was founded in 1730, under the protection of a chapel inaugurated by José Ruiz de Arellano. It has been declared city of historic national interest by the Argentine Government and is recognized for being the homeland of Don Segundo Sombra, the immortal character of the novel written by Ricardo Güiraldes. The city is the home of the Museo Gauchesco Ricardo Güiraldes. Each year in November, the city holds the Día de la Tradición (Tradition Day) gaucho celebration. Since 2001, San Antonio de Areco is sister city of Laredo, Texas in the United States.

Thank you Tatiana! This festival usually happens every year, but the pandemic has stopped it for now.

Thank you Cindy - I love horses and they have some really beautiful horses here in Argentina of many different breeds.

A very pleasant picture Venetia. One doesn't really see the mens' faces and horses look disinterested, yet the entire image is very provoking. Good one!
Venetia Featherstone-Witty replied:
I hear you Marie - but showing recognisable faces requires a model release and candids are challenging. I chose this because it shows the gauchos in between competitions and the one on the left is counting his beer money for later and not on the cell phone - so it tells a story!
