Description
To be witness to the birth of new land from the core of the earth at dawn is not only spectacular, but a moving and powerful spiritual experience. We arrived before dawn and stood in awe as this surrealistic scene unfolded. This is Kalapana in the district of Puna, which is currently in the path of fresh lava flow from the goddess Pele of the Kiluea volcano. Pele is both destroyer and builder of new land in Hawaii.
