I took this photo. in Lujan, Argentina at a polo event. The Friesian (also Frisian) is a horse breed originating in Friesland, in the Netherlands. Through the Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages, their size enabled them to carry a knight in armor. In the Late Middle Ages, heavier, draft type animals were needed. F/L. These are stunningly beautiful animals!
Venetia Featherstone-Witty replied:
Yes - Friesian horses are magnificent. These horses were both beautiful and strong and during the Middle Ages were prized as war horses, very often ridden by Kings and Queens and because of their strength and size they were able to carry knights in armor.
