Description
I took this photo. in Lujan, Argentina at a polo event. The Friesian (also Frisian) is a horse breed originating in Friesland, in the Netherlands. Although the breed's conformation resembles that of a light draft horse, Friesians are graceful and nimble for their size. It is believed that during the Middle Ages, ancestors of Friesian horses were in great demand as war horses throughout continental Europe. Through the Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages, their size enabled them to carry a knight in armor. In the Late Middle Ages, heavier, draft type animals were needed. Though the breed nearly became extinct on more than one occasion, the modern day Friesian horse is growing in numbers and popularity, used both in harness and under saddle. Most recently, the breed is being introduced to the field of dressage.Zorro is a character created in 1919 by New York based pulp writer Johnston McCulley. The character has been featured in numerous books, films, television series, and other media. Zorro (Spanish for "fox") is the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega, a Californian nobleman living in Los Angeles during the era of Mexican rule. The character has undergone changes through the years, but the typical image of him is a dashing black-clad masked outlaw who defends the people of the land against tyrannical officials and other villains. Not only is he too cunning and foxlike for the bumbling authorities to catch, but also delights in publicly humiliating them.

F/L. These are stunningly beautiful animals!
Venetia Featherstone-Witty replied:
Yes - Friesian horses are magnificent. These horses were both beautiful and strong and during the Middle Ages were prized as war horses, very often ridden by Kings and Queens and because of their strength and size they were able to carry knights in armor.

Venetia, Wonderful story and image here! As a boy I loved Walt Disney's Zorro played by Guy Williams whom I believe had retired in Argentina. Decades later I enjoyed the Zorro movies with Antonio Banderas . Fav JERRY
